Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Rennes forward Is Ismaila Sarr according to reports in Europe. The forward has been impressive in the French side run into the round of 16 of the Europa League this season. He was one of the best players on the pitch last Thursday when both sides met in France. The 21-year-old terrorised the Gunners defence with his pace and was rewarded in the 8th minute when he scored a diving header of the break to seal a memorable 3-1 victory.
His performance according to reports has seen a renewed effort by the club to sign him in the summer as Unai Emery seeks to strengthen the squad. It is understood that the player had been on the radar of the club as former head of football Sven Mslintat had earmarked the Senegal international at the beginning of the season.
However, the former Dortmund director left in February and is expected to be replaced by legendary talent spotter Minchi who has left AS Roma. Monchi is well known to Emery as they both work together during his time as the manager of Sevilla in Spain. It is understood that the Spaniard would continue from where Mslintat left off and make a formal bid for the winger before the end of the season.
Sarr was one of the best youngsters at the 2018 World Cup despite his country Senegal going out in the group stages. Blessed with raw pace and the ability to beat opposing defenders the 21-year-old has become one to look out for this season. He has been able to provide a perfect foil for Ben Arfa at Rennes this season.
Arsenal lack genuine pace on the wing with only Alex Iwobi the only true winger in the squad. The Nigerian international loves to cut inside but with Sarr, the Gunner get a natural winger capable of stretching opposition defences.
Arsenal have been on a decent run of results in the league and recently beat Manchester United at the Emirates to reduce the gap to rivals Tottenham to a single point.
